In the morning venture out on a tour of Negombo. Negombo is one of Sri Lanka’s busiest fishing centers and is also famous for coconut products, cinnamon, ceramics and brassware. The beauty is found on the beaches and around the lagoons, where colorful fishing boats lie on the blue water against a backdrop of palm trees and blue sky. Dutch Canal which was then a supply route to the Dutch administration, old churches and fishing villagers is still being used and is an attraction for those who want to see the country from a different perspective.
Stop at a Pineapple-Plantation and have your first experience with this delicious tropical fruit. Sri Lanka is well known for its sweet pineapples.
Arrive in the cultural triangle and discover the Dambulla Rock Cave Temple dated from the first century BC.
Dambulla Cave temple, a complex that lies atop a massive hill on the edge of the town is one of the eight UNESCO world heritage sites in the country and is renowned for its unique sculptures and the largest mural paintings.

The origin of folklore dancing goes way back in time to the indigenous people of Sri Lanka. According to historical records, the tribal people - Yakkas were fond of Music and Dance. ? In the evening take a turn in your liking of Adventure and make it double the excitement with a Night Safari! It’s the best time to spot the magnificent animals as they wander about in the night. Make sure to be well geared with your night vision cameras however, don’t forget to be silent in order not to scare the creatures away. If you’re lucky enough you will encounter the endangered species, “The Magnificent Elephant” as the ‘cherry on top of the cake’. To top the night off with more spice, your guide will take you to a nearby boutique to have a meaty snack -“Bonnet Chicken”, a dish named after a “wild” incident that occurred of an elephant attacking the “bonnet” of a jeep that was cruising on safari. This would certainly give you a pump for the next day’s activities! (Aprx. USD 25/- per person – Important note best season is between May – October every year)

After an early breakfast drive to Hiriwaduna - a village that lies sprawled around a reservoir located off the main Habarana road.
On arrival begin an exciting trek - Begin your trek along a shaded, gravel path that leads on to the bund of the reservoir, which is a stunning mixture of contrasts. The ashen trunks of long dead trees rise up starkly against the lush, green vegetation of the wetlands in the background, their skeletal shapes the perfect spots for roosting egrets. Thereafter, cross the overspill and make your way towards the sandy embankment, which is your pick up point for an easy crossing by "Oruwa".
Reach the far shore and then make your way along a narrow, shady path that cuts through a banana plantation until you reach a clearing in which stands a house of wattle and daub, the home of a chena farmer and his family. Enjoy a cool, sweet drink of king coconut before you begin the next phase of your trek, which will lead you through vegetable plots and to a scrub forest, where a waiting bullock cart will transport you through jungle and passed paddy fields to your next destination.
A traditional Rich and Curry lunch on a paddy field will be the theme, similar to how a farmer would enjoy his daily meals.
Return to the hotel and relax.
Climb to the top of the UN World Heritage Site of Sigiriya at 4pm. An ancient rock fortress from the 5th Century. Amazing views of the Cultural Triangle!

Experience the touch and feel of the “Beraya” (The Drums) and learn to play a beat or two from a senior individual named “Nandasena Aiya” who has a wealth of practice with the historic instrument. Being clad in rather elaborative traditional costume and accessories would certainly mesmerize you with the color splash of the local Culture! Ancient sources reveal that drums were used for special occasions from the time of birth until death. Later used for communication, pleasure and rituals, these traditional drums have become an integral part of Buddhist Temples, Processions and Culture in Sri Lanka and especially in Kandy.
Later meet “Ganga akka”, a villager who will take you through an interactive cooking session of the scrumptious local dish called “Pittu”. This is mixed rice flour and coconut scrape fed in to a metal cylinder, steamed and taken for consumption. The preparation for this is an art itself which would highlight the attention to detail by these villagers to get the correct texture of a dish. Top it up with some hot gravy, boiled coconut milk and “Lunu Miris” and you’re good to gobble up!
