Itinerary

01

Day 1

ARRIVE IN BANGKOK
We take the hassle out of arriving into Thailand by meeting you at the airport (BKK only) and helping you get checked in to your Guesthouse near Khao San Road (Green House, Soi Rambuttri).

02

Day 2

ORIENTATION AND BANGKOK TOUR
After a quick chat about your trip it will be time for you to experience some of the most famous sites of Bangkok including the Temple of Dawn, Wat Arun and the Giant Golden Reclining Buddha. Then later that evening you will head back to the Khao San road area for a few drinks with your new travel buddies.

03

Day 3

CHATTUCHAK MARKET
A fantastic day is ahead of you as you explore one of South East Asia’s largest markets. Search hard enough and you can find pretty much everything on earth here – as well as some fantastic food stalls and funky bars. Your guide will help you find your way around and see why this is not only one of the biggest markets around, but one of the best

04

Day 4

BANGKOK VOLUNTEER DAY
You’re going behind the scenes today at Wat Pho (home of the giant Reclining Buddha) to work with the children at the Temple school located the grounds of Wat Pho. Don’t worry, your guide will be on hand to guide you as you not only contribute to the day’s learning for the students but also get to learn about and see how a simple Thai school operates. A fascinating day all round and you won’t forget the enthusiasm of the students in a hurry.

05

Day 5

TRANSFER TO SURIN
Time to leave the bright lights and big city and head to your ‘home’ for the next few days - Surin. Leaving in the morning, the trip takes between 6 and 7 hours (we usually travel by train but occasionally will use a coach) and once you’re out of the city sprawl you start to see the rice paddies and that classic South East Asian scenery. On arrival you’ll check in at your hotel and your guide will make sure you know all the best places to eat and enjoy the time ahead.

06

Day 6-9

TEACHING
For the next couple of days you’ll be working in a rural Thai school / day care centre helping encourage English language development and conversation. We work very closely with the schools to ensure that you know what they would like you to cover and this is a fantastic opportunity to play a small but important part of the students language development – plus you’ll meet some of the most enthusiastic students you’ve ever come across.
SCHOOL / DAY CARE CENTRE RENOVATION
A different sort of help to the community as you roll up your sleeves and put your muscles to work, helping with the on-going development of schools and day care centres in the rural areas around Surin town. As with all elements of the trip your guide and our local team will be on hand to ensure you know what you’re doing, and that you’re getting it right! The exact work each group does is determined by the schools and community so does change - however, the most common activity is the restoration / development of small playing areas for children, something that leaves an immediate and positive impact.
Please be advised that you need to present an up to date Background / Police Check before arrival in order to participate in this volunteering project!
FOR DATES FROM 1 JAN 2019:
DAY 6, 7, 8 & 9: VOLUNTEER SCHOOL RENOVATION For the next four days you will be picked up around 07:45 - 08:00 by the team and transported to the project site. This will be one of the many village schools in Surin. You can expect to work 4-6 hours a day (please note: this can change and is always driven of course by the chosen projects requirements).
You will be working as a group with one of the local Surin team, the project objective will be explained and all elements of the renovation work shown to you by example. There is no machinery, this is basic work using basic tools and no previous experience is required.
Past projects have included fixing sinks, creating gravity fed water systems, painting classrooms, renovating play areas…it is really rewarding work. All projects are designed to be completed during your time in Surin. Your exact project will be decided in conjunction with the local schools near the time of your arrival.
You will be transferred back to the hotel House around 2:30 - 3:00pm (again, this can vary depending on the job task!) and then have the rest of the afternoon and evening free to explore Surin.

07

Day 10

FREE TIME
A free day to catch your breath, catch up on some sleep, rest or explore Surin town. The town has a fantastic market, some very interesting temples and, if the weather is good, there’s a hotel not too far away that lets visitors use the pool for a small fee - go on, you’ve earned a day to chill out.

08

Day 11-14

ELEPHANTS!
For the next 4 days and 3 nights you will live, work and play alongside a real elephant community on the rural outskirts of Surin. You’ll get to bathe the elephants, learn how to cut bamboo as a sustainable food supply and feed them, and help out in any other elephant related jobs. In return you’ll be treated to traditional Thai food from the village for the duration of your stay.
