Meet your group at a Glasgow hostel at 10 am, where we get a transfer from the hustle and bustle of Scotland s biggest city to our starting point at Milngavie, the official starting point for the West Highland Way. Our adventure begins with mountain biking north past shimmering lochs and through lush green forests. You will pass areas such as the Khyber Pass as it is known locally, before continuing onwards up Conic Hill where you can see the line of islands following the Highland Boundary Fault across Loch Lomond. You can find some of the most highly-praised Scottish scenery in this area; it s no coincidence that this landscape has inspired artists and musicians for centuries.
Today we take to the water and canoe the world famous Loch Lomond which is part of the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. The surrounding Highlands are home to red deer so keep your eyes on the shore for a chance to spot some Scottish wildlife. You have the opportunity to get a truly unique view of the dramatic Ben Lomond, one of our most popular Munros, on arguably Scotland's most beautiful loch before we stop for the night. We stay overnight in lodges that are only a short stroll from The Old Drovers Inn if you fancy a pint of local ale after the day's activities.
Travelling on foot and by bike, we follow the River Falloch through stunning gorges and rocky rapids. If time allows, we will go for a swim in its beautiful pools, so don t forget to pack your swimsuit! As we trek north through Strathfillan we come to the site of the Battle of Dalrigh where Robert the Bruce battled with the Clan MacDougall in 1306. We stay overnight in Tyndrum, at the southern edge of Rannoch Moor. The small village is a popular tourist village and caters to many walkers travelling on the West Highland Way, so you are bound to find some good banter here. The town also has Scotland s only gold mine!
Today we bike and hike through one of the last remaining wildernesses in Europe. We take the old military road, built in the 1700 s by General Wade to control the Scots when we trek through the barren Rannoch Moor towards Glencoe. You will see some of Scotland's most iconic scenery when we enter possibly most famous Scottish glen, Glencoe. This area is famous for a reason; the rugged mountains and wide open skies will leave you breathless! Tonight we stay in the Micro Lodges at Glencoe Ski Centre with stunning views of Glencoe and its iconic peak Buachaille Etive Mor.
We tackle the legendary Devil s Staircase , named by Wade s soldiers who built the route and take in the mesmerising views of Rannoch Moor and Buachaille Etive Mor behind us. We continue through the stunningly beautiful Glencoe, scene of the infamous massacre of 1692. More recently the glen was used as a backdrop in Harry Potter movies and James Bond Skyfall. There s no better way to truly understand how the Highland clans lived in the past centuries than to literally follow in their footsteps, so put yourself in their shoes when you walk through the ancient landscape. In the afternoon, we take to the water and sea kayak along the stunning fjord like Loch Leven. The mountains on the west coast come into full view as we head towards the Atlantic. It is a sight to behold!
A truly amazing day kayaking from the calm inlet of Loch Leven into the open waters of Loch Linnhe where we often spot seals, otters, cormorants and other wildlife. The trip ends at Fort William, a town surrounded by open water and overlooked by Britain s highest mountain Ben Nevis. Take a short stroll to the Grog & Gruel pub for well-earned refreshments and recap the past days' adventures with your group. If you want to continue your adventure after a day s rest, check out our Great Glen Way Adventure. Four epic days by foot, canoe, sea kayak and bike when you make your way from Fort William, through the legendary Loch Ness, to Inverness, the capital of the Highlands!
