Make a Difference in the Philippines

This unique project runs alongside GK, an award-winning Philippines-based NGO that aims to eradicate the country’s poverty through creating sustainable communities. Volunteer at the Enchanted Farm, a thriving hub for social entrepreneurs, get stuck into urban gardening, and help to cut down on plastic waste. You’ll head on to the coastal village of San Felipe, located north of Manila and popular with surf fans. Trek to a local indigenous community and continue your good deeds by getting involved in the community’s reforestation project and learn all about their fascinating way of life. And don`t miss out on some good ol’ beach time before you head back to Manila!

Day 1-2

Meet at at Z Hostel in the flourishing Poblacion district of Makati, and start strong with visits to two fantastic initiatives in the capital. First, head to The Ruins, an art centre which promotes the arts and creativity and offers free art workshops to local street children. Then, head on to an Urban Greens exhibit, an urban garden exhibit that grows fresh fruit and vegtables. Urban Greens is an initiative that seeks to grow fruit and vegetables hydroponically (without soil), which allows greens to grow in urban spaces without needing to use pesticides. On Day 2, take a bike tour of Old Manila with Bambike, a innovative social enterprise that creates bamboo bicycles. Bike through Manila’s historic Old City of Intramuros to learn all about Filipino history. Make your way to the home of the NGO Gawad Kalinga in the afternoon. Roll up your sleeves and learn how to make a Filipino dish, or assist in supporting the community’s compost project. (B, 2L, 2D)


Day 3-4

Volunteering Project at GK Enchanted Farm
Tour this 43-hectare farm on Day 3 to learn about the sustainable business. Help to support environmental projects, experience farming and agriculture first-hand and discover its importance in promoting sustainability in the Philippines. Get stuck into The Plastic Solution, a green initiative which aims to turn single-use plastics into eco-bricks. (2B, 2L, 2D)


Day 5-8

San Felipe Zambales
Head to the popular surfing village of San Felipe Zambales and soak up the incredible sunset in the evening (if the weather`s on-side). On Day 6, help out on a local composting project which aims to turn food waste into fertiliser. Spend your afternoon working on a plant nursery where you’ll help prepare seedlings to take to tomorrow’s tribe. During your time here, opt to indulge in some island-hopping or visit a nearby waterfall. On Day 8, it`s time to get off the beaten track with a trek to the visit the Aeta indigenous community. Have lunch with members of the community and help them in their effort to plant a new rainforest. (4B, 4L, 4D)


Day 9-10

Throw yourself into a beach clean-up on Day 9, then enjoy the fruits of your labour on the sand in the afternoon. Time to head back to Manila! Hop on a bus from Zambales San Felipe with a tour guide to Manila, and get a taxi with your guide to Z Hostel where you`ll enjoy some sunset drinks and live music. The following day marks the end of this tour, but feel free to stay on if you’re not done with Manila just yet! (2B, L, D)
