From the luxury of Bangkok's malls and gleaming high-rises, head north to Thailand's hills. Eating and sleeping with the hilltribes will bring you face-to-face with these colourful cultures. We’ll leave plenty of time for fun in historic Chiang Mai with its night market and delicious cuisine. Our Chief Experience Officers (CEOs) will help you get off the beaten path — but you'll stay flexible by being able to choose the activities you really want.
Arrive in Bangkok at any time.
Today is arrival day, so there are no activities planned. Enjoy free time to relax, explore the city, and adjust to the frantic pace and humid heat of Bangkok.
After your meeting, head out for an optional dinner to get to know your CEO and fellow group members better.
Opt to visit Wat Po and the Grand Palace, or check out the city's klongs by boat. Board an overnight train to Chiang Mai.
Enjoy one of two street food crawls with the group and CEO. Opt to visit Doi Suthep temple, comb the night markets for souvenirs, or participate in a Thai cooking class.
Trek through rugged forests and experience the wonderful diversity of this region: each village has its own language, belief system, style of dress, and traditions. Drive from Chiang Mai to Mae Malai village, where the trek will begin. After a few hours of hiking, reach the first village.
We might have time to visit a local market before stopping for lunch and starting our trek.
Tucked away in the hills of northern Thailand is where the most colourful and unchanged traditional communities can be found. Trek through forests and rural terrains to visit some of these diverse hilltribe villages; often, each will have their own unique language, clothing style, and belief system that differs significantly from those of neighbouring tribes. You are well looked after by your local guides, who take the responsibility of preparing all meals and carrying food supplies.
Trek 2-3 hrs and, after lunch, head to a Karen village to learn about traditional basket weaving and scarf-making. Continue trekking another few hours to the next village for the night.
You will also have the chance to fish at Mae Tang River using local tools; learn how to construct a bamboo raft.
After breakfast, leave the village by bamboo raft, stopping at other villages along the way. Meet the van after lunch and head back to Chiang Mai for some free time to explore.
Opt to go shopping, enjoy a Thai massage, or explore Chiang Mai's many temples. Board an overnight train to Bangkok.
The trip ends on arrival at the Bangkok train station.
Arrive in Bangkok at approximately 8am. Tour finishes on arrival at the train station.

Not only was the trip amazing...our guide and the people we traveled with made it even more unforgettable! It did not feel like we were on a tour...even the food prepared by our guides was top notch.Overall Rating
Overall, the tour was one of my highlights of my stay in Thailand. Tui was excellent! And really made it a very good experience for everyone.Overall Rating
The tour was excellent! I was a little apprehensive about embarking on a tour, but this type of tour enabled lots of freedom to do what I wanted, but with the convenience of a guide to helpfully offer advice and make arrangements.Overall Rating
I had a wonderful time! I learned so much about the area I traveled, the people, the culture and the food. The hotels were clean and welcoming. The various forms of transportation an experience and the Thai people wonderfully friendly! This Northern trip had a lot to offer in such a short amount of time. It was awesome!Overall Rating
This trip exceeded all expectations in every way. You simply cannot anticipate the feelings that this area of Thailand conjurs up within you. I am happy with every aspect of this trip. The elephant ride and bamboo rafting had to be two of the many highlights for me, as well as meeting the hill tribes, who are unbelievably accommodating, and experiencing multiple forms of local transport, including tuk tuks! Using local guides for the trekking was fantastic - it gave us a real insight into how things really are in these remote places and the area itself is a stunning environment to be in.Overall Rating
Our local G Adventures tour leader, Simon, did a great job teaching us about the Thai culture, how to be respectful and prepared us for what to expect by using photos, maps and talks. We had an amazing time hiking in the jungle, exploring Bangkok and cooking in Chiang Mai! We were even blessed by the monks!Overall Rating
We really enjoyed the adventure. It will be one of the great highlights in our lives.Overall Rating

Overall this trip was excellent, could not have asked for a better leader or group of people.Overall Rating
I went into this trip having never done a travel tour before. I was nervous because I generally like to move at my own pace and without restrictions.... This tour was amazing because it allowed flexibility, ,but was structured enough to keep everyone moving in the right direction at the proper time.Overall Rating
