Thailand and Cambodia Voluntour

A great option if you want to see the highlights of Thailand and Cambodia and stock up your karma bank at the same time with not one but two projects. Help with renovations at rural schools near Surin and help care for the elephants of a nearby Elephant Village. Help to feed and bathe the animals with families who have lived alongside them for generations. When you are not hard at work, hit up the street food markets of Bangkok, explore Angkor Wat and round off with a sunbathing session on the beaches of Koh Tao and Koh Phangan (ask our Travel Expert for the Island Extension!)

Day 1

We take the hassle out of arriving into Thailand by meeting you at the airport (BKK only) and helping you get checked in to your Guesthouse near Khao San Road (Green House, Soi Rambuttri).

Day 2

After a quick chat about your trip it will be time for you to experience some of the most famous sites of Bangkok including the Temple of Dawn, Wat Arun and the Giant Golden Reclining Buddha. Then later that evening you will head back to the Khao San road area for a few drinks with your new travel buddies.

Day 3

Today you will have the opportunity to support Wat Po Temple School; Wat Po School provides free education for the local poor families. You will participate in activities at the school such as teaching and games. This is a great way to introduce the importance of learning English to the children.

Day 4

Time to check out Bangkok biggest market, the market stretches over 11 acres and sells everything from puppies to parasols. Test your bargaining skills and check out the huge range of products to buy. Chatuchak is a great place to buy clothes and souvenirs.

Day 5

Time to leave the concrete jungle of Bangkok for a trip to Surin, the elephant capital of Thailand. Our team will accompany you to help you get to Surin and give you all the info you need while you are there.

Day 6-9

For the next four days you will be picked up around 07:45 – 08:00 by the team and transported to the project site. This will be one of the many village schools in Surin. You can expect to work 4-6 hours a day (please note: this can change and is always driven of course by the chosen projects requirements).
You will be working as a group with one of the local Surin team, the project objective will be explained and all elements of the renovation work shown to you by example. There is no machinery, this is basic work using basic tools and no previous experience is required.
Past projects have included fixing sinks, creating gravity fed water systems, painting classrooms, renovating play areas…it is really rewarding work. All projects are designed to be completed during your time in Surin. Your exact project will be decided in conjunction with the local schools near the time of your arrival.
You will be transferred back to the hotel House around 2:30 – 3:00pm (again, this can vary depending on the job task!) and then have the rest of the afternoon and evening free to explore Surin.

Day 15

A day of travelling as you head South of Surin town to the Cambodian border and then on to our destination of Siem Reap. We should arrive in Siem Reap by mid-afternoon giving you some time to explore and get a feel for this lively town.
NOTE: Your visa to Cambodia is not included in the fees for the trip

Day 17

You will leave Surin around 9.00am and travel towards Khao Yai National Park. Khao Yai is one of Thailand’s most beautiful national parks and has stunning scenery. The journey is approximately 4 hours. Once you arrive at your accommodation you’ll have the evening free to relax and prepare for the Jungle Trekking tomorrow.

Day 18

You will join an experienced local guide and spend the day trekking to one of Thailand’s most iconic waterfalls and take in a breathtaking view at Pha Daew Dai.
The Jungle trek is often regarded as one the highlights of the trip for its sense of adventure. The trek is very pleasant and provided you are in good health, not particularly challenging.
Around 15:00 you will transfer back to your accommodation and have the evening free to discuss today’s activities with the rest of your group

Day 19

We return to Bangkok for one more night of crazy fun on Khao San road before getting ready for the next stage of your adventure!
At around 10:00 you will depart the resort to head back to Khao San Road. The journey will take approximately 4 hours. Once on Khao San Road you will check into the hotel and have the evening free.

Day 20

Today you will need to make sure you have a good breakfast and use that energy for your bike tour!
You will be leaving the hotel around 8:45am to walk a short distance to go and collect your bikes and meet your local guide. You will get to experience a road less travelled in Bangkok, where you will get to bike through small rural streets and alleyways, walk up to a temple, and cross the bridge on the river.
After the bike tour, you have most of the afternoon free to explore Bangkok, catch up on sleep (?), head for a Thai Massage or shop to your heart’s content.

Day 21

If you booked the 21 days trip, we’re sorry but it’s time to head home / onto further travels. You will make your own way to the airport.
You can also book this trip with a 7 days Beach Extension where you will head to Koh Tao for some amazing snorkelling or diving , following the Party and Sun Island of Koh Phangan.
